| Who Are We
? |
I would like to take this
opportunity to introduce myself. My name
is Colin Wilson. I joined the company in
November 1970, as a direct driver, and
was amongst those who were, eventually,
swallowed up by the then local bus
company “Yorkshire Rider” in 1989. With
the help & expertise of my son Mark, we
have tried to put together an
interesting and hopefully, one day, a
site that will give people an insight
into the company & the people who worked
for it.
I began my affair “on the buses” in the
March of 1966, with the Yorkshire
Woollen District out of their Park Lane
depot, that they shared with the Hebble
Motor Services. My father, who was a
driver there, got me an interview as a
conductor. At the time I was a butcher
and my father thought it time I got a
“proper” job!
My knowledge of the history of the West
Yorkshire Road Car Co, is very limited,
despite the fact that both myself and my
father, he in the 50’s, worked for the
company. I have never had much interest
in the mechanics of buses or the
preservation of them. However I have
always had an interest in the people
that I worked with. Many of the
characters I met and worked with over 30
years on the job, help shape my life and
I am grateful for that. The camaraderie
on all the companies I worked for was
always great. But that of the West
Yorkshire RCC was, without doubt, very
special.
Now the important bit!! Many of those
people are out there and with them,
carry lots of my memories, anecdotes &
plain lies that they and I told to each
other! I, for one, would like to
re-visit them once again! So PLEASE, get
in touch! Any old photographs or
documents that you think would be of
interest, I would gladly put up on the
web-site. Anyone you would like me to
try and find or just to say hello to me
again that would be great. I would scan
any photo’s, with permission, and return
them to there owners.
It was a good company. It deserves to be
remembered as such! The majority of the
workforce was also a bit special (even
the inspector Middleton!), so it would
be nice to hear from some of you again!
SO, if you’re reading this its,
colin@wyrc.co.uk for e-mail or
my telephone number is on the “contact”
page. |
